This year I took my first SUPA college course in Writing 105. I chose this course because my favorite subject is English Language Arts. During class this year we covered so many aspects of the English Language regarding literacy, genres, and more. Not only did we cover those Educational aspects, but we covered different areas of modern life and culture in some cases. These are lessons and skills I gained from SUPA Writing 105 this year.
Personal Experience - When writing in class this year. We touched on many different topics and situations. We expressed our opinions and thoughts as well, while researching and analyzing the thoughts of professionals. But to help make everyone’s piece original and standoff from others Schilly encouraged us to use our own experiences to enhance our writing skills. For example, in our college essay. We used our own personal experiences to help create a wonderful moving piece about who we are as a person.
Confidence/Mood - A lesson I learned myself throughout the year is that confidence and good moods really help you write better pieces. It’s easier to wait and not force when writing. When relaxed, confident, and sure of what you want to say on paper, you will create a more significant writing piece. Patience can even tie into having a good mood. When in a bad mood, you want to rush and get it done. But writing has its own process.
Vulnerability - Vulnerability is also connected with your moods in writing. I believe that a person who is vulnerable with themselves creates and makes the best arts. A person who knows themselves and their own weaknesses or strengths can simply find more ways to express themselves and their words or thoughts. When writing this year for certain topics it was easy for me to tap into that vulnerability and write because I knew myself and how I felt regarding the different topics we talked about. My most vulnerable piece this year was my Final unit 2 essay.
Outside Resources - Using outside resources the accurate way was a big lesson for me this year. Most people don’t know how to accurately use outside resources when writing. When using other ideas or thoughts, even opinions that aren’t your own, you should cite them in your writing pieces. I learned how to cite other resources and intertwine them with my own thoughts and opinions, then incorporate them into my writing to make a broader aspect or idea. Resources really helped me in this class because not everyone always has the perfect idea to write about. It can be a challenge sometimes.
5. Peer Review Criticism - We used consistent peer review and constructive criticism in SUPA this year and I believe having my fellow classmates help me and give me advice to improve my writing helped so much. It was their chance to teach me and broaden my writing skills in their own way by sharing their knowledge and opinions with me. Just reading and sharing ideas with my classmates was a joy because I got a chance to see how they think and write in their own way. It was interesting and informative. Doing this gives you a chance to embrace or adapt new skills yourself to use to write, which helps in the long run.
