This year I took my first SUPA college course in Writing 105. I chose this course because my favorite subject is English Language Arts. During class this year we covered so many aspects of the English Language regarding literacy, genres, and more. Not only did we cover those Educational aspects, but we covered different areas of modern life and culture in some cases. These are lessons and skills I gained from SUPA Writing 105 this year.   Personal Experience - When writing in class this year. We touched on many different topics and situations. We expressed our opinions and thoughts as well, while researching and analyzing the thoughts of professionals. But to help make everyone’s piece original and standoff from others Schilly encouraged us to use our own experiences to enhance our writing skills. For example, in our college essay. We used our own personal experiences to help create a wonderful moving piece about who we are as a person.  Confidence/Mood - A lesson I lea...

Little Miss Sunshine

Image
In the film Little Miss Sunshine , directed by Jonathan Dayton Valerie Faris and written by Michael Arndt there is a family that resides in an Albuquerque, New Mexico home. The movie revolves around a blended dysfunctional family, that includes a huge egotistical father, a stressed-filled mother, an insecure yet innocent daughter, an introverted son, a suicidal uncle, and drug-addict grandfather. This is clearly not the normal family but in the movies this what we deal with. The family realizes that they're not normal but they make it work. The entire story-line of the movie is young daughter and sister, Olive to one of biggest beauty pageants in California for young girls. Watching the film in the beginning, it seems to show all the flawed aspects within the family and their home. It portrays the different issues within each character themselves as well. Throughout the movie each character grows individually not only by working together as a family but simply working together to k...

Op-Docs

As I've aged to become the young black lady I am today in the 21st century, I've also come to the the conclusion in my opinion that the judgment of people and society is solemnly based on stereotypes. Blacks are uneducated, Whites are rich, Mexicans as well as Latinos are criminals, but Asians, Asians are the smartest race. In this Op-doc it is shown that the countries Iceland, Japan, and Germany all have higher scores than the U.S.  Why is this? and what should it have to do with Christmas. It is also shown that these 3 countries have notorious scary holiday icons. The U.S, we have Santa, the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, and many others... These holiday icons are huge influencers to many kids and I believe their image means well. But watching this Op-doc made me honestly think, could this be what the United States of America needs, A scary holiday icon. I do believe our lives, liberty, and happiness have made us all too soft. What can we do to harden our shells again. Once we...

Tough Guise

Image
As I grow into this world and become more observant, I see a society that controls the way people think, judge, and react, making it hard for boys or men to be who they truly want to be. As well as women. But unlike women, boys and men are easily or quickly rejected. Tough Guise 2, the documentary is clearly about Toxic Masculinity in men but it's also about the violent thinking that takes place within a man's mind; the dramatic impact of feminism within a boy's life, and the failure of an appropriate male role model provided for a young boys over many generations.  After watching the film I had a chance to read these 2 articles regarding the very topic of Masculinity. Reading these articles and watching this film, I gained a better understanding of the bigger picture when it comes to Toxic Masculinity in society today. As a divided people we need to come together to hear what different folks have to say. Society needs to give men back their language to speak how they fee...

Understanding Society without Technology

Image
The world is full of many generations and as society evolves some generations are still stuck. They're stuck in their ways or just stuck in the way their generation saw society. The only way to understand and accept a person is to listen to what they have to say, to actually have conversation about how they feel or what they think and without using your phone. But with mostly using your ears. Watching Celeste Headlee's 10 Ways to Have a Better Conversation ,  I took out a lot of information and many lessons. It is true that my generations has loss the quality of having a good conversation, a better conversation. All we know is what is on or in our phones, that's how we communicate. In Celeste's Ted Talk she tells us to forget what was use to know about having a regular conversation. There are better ways to stay interested in a conversation, to actually listen and talk less. The country is so divided right now but by having conversation and efficiently listening, the c...

Mentor Blogs

I enjoy how Her Modern Life blog keeps up with the modern things in the fashion, like Lacoste clothing brand. It shows new stuff about one of my favorite shows Lovecraft Country in the Entertainment world. It's very organized. so it's easy to find things. The title is what really drew me towards the blog. And that is exactly how I want readers and viewers to feel about my blog. I want them to feel drawn and interested with just the title or organization. The logo also made a good impression..  This blog also had an amazing title that I was drawn to. It had covered many different things. The blog ranged from press and media to fashion, hair, beauty, college advice, and more blogging. It was greatly organized and the colors really made the blog come together. I enjoyed reading looking over this blog because there was a lot to offer especially as a, black girl blogging. I already knew about TMZ because pretty much all teenagers know about TMZ. TMZ also has a lot to share as far as...
